In Nier Replicant/Gestalt, you play as the Replicant of the original Gestalt, the Shadowlord. Androids, such as Devola and Popola models seen in Nier, are created by humans to oversee project Gestalt to completion and make sure new replicant bodies are created every generation or so. Project Gestalt basically separates humans into two forms: a physical body (the replicants) and the souls (the gestalts) which prevents them from being corrupted by the white dust from the final boss. The body of Drakengard's protagonist's dragon, Angelus, is experimented on and which leads to all the magic and eventually the project Gestalt in Nier Replicant/Gestalt. The final boss's body dust creates an illness in which people who touch become controlled by the Watchers/Drakengard universe gods and eventually wreaks havoc on the world. Player kills the final boss which leads to white dust powder spreading all over the land, and then the player and the player's dragon are shot down by the Tokyo airforce. Alright so: final boss of Drakengard 1 ending E takes the player to modern day Shinjuku, Tokyo.
